Due to KDE bug #55804 I ran some tests on Konqueror, Dolphin, and the system "cp" and "mv" commands to determine what date copied and moved files receive. I found that there is gross inconsistency between applications.
Dolphin 1.2 (KDE 4.2) and Konqueror 3.5.10 (KDE 3.5.10) |
||
Copy | Cut | |
Local to Local | Original Date | Original Date |
Local to Remote System (via SSH) | Now | Now |
Remote System to Local | Original Date | Now |
cp/mv commands |
||
Copy | Cut | |
cp command Local to Local |
Now | |
mv command Local to Local |
Original Date |
The "cp" and "mv" commands have the expected behaviour: "cp" makes a new file, and that file's date is today, while "mv" simply moves a file and retains it's date. Konqueror and Dolphin do not behave in a fashion similar to "cp" and "mv", even worse, they behave differently depending on which filesystems one is working with.
